Refrigerator/Freezer Rid-A-Fridge Program

We Pick Up, We Recycle, You Get Paid!

Rid-a-Fridge makes it easy for residential electric customers to surrender old, working refrigerators and freezers. We will pick up and recycle old, working units for free and pay you a reward:

  • Oahu households will receive $50.
  • Maui and Hawaii Island households will get $65.

Note: The Rid-A-Fridge & Trade-Up rebates may not be combined. To learn more about our Refrigerator Trade-Up rebate, click here.

Did you know?

  • Old, inefficient refrigerators can use two to three times more electricity than new ENERGY STAR® models.
  • An extra refrigerator and/or freezer can cost $292 on Oahu, $314 on Maui and $336 on Hawaii Island* to operate each year.

*Actual savings may vary depending on the age and condition of the removed appliance and the electricity rates of each island as of July 2014.

How to Get Started

Step 1: Call for a free pick-up. On Oahu, call 537-5577. On Maui and Hawaii Island, call toll-free 1-877-231-8222.

Step 2: Complete & send in application. You will receive the application during the pick-up and it must be postmarked within sixty (60) days of the pick up.
