Rid-A-Fridge to Fight Hunger

Donate your rebate and help feed Hawaii’s hungry.

Getting rid of your old, working fridge and/or freezer will not only help you to save energy and money on your electric bill but now, you can make an even greater impact on our community by donating your rebate back to your local food bank.

On Oahu –

Consider donating your $50 rebate to the Hawaii Foodbank and your donation could provide food for 125 meals for those in need.

On Maui and Hawaii Island -

Consider donating your $65 rebate to the Maui Food Bank or The Food Basket (on Hawaii Island) and your donation could provide food for 250 meals for those in need.

Did you Know?

  • 14% of Hawaii residents are in need of emergency food assistance, including young children and the elderly.  Together, we can make a difference for the more than 183,000 people who face hunger.
  • Refrigerators and freezers that are more than 20 years old can cost $275 on Oahu, $320 on Maui and $355 on Hawaii Island* to operate each year.
*Actual savings may vary depending on the age and condition of the removed appliance and the electricity rates of each island as of September 2013.
