Pulling Together for Hawaii's Future

NOTICE TO PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

End-of-the-Year Phone Survey

Aloha, Hawaii Energy program participants!

There is a phone survey currently being conducted to evaluate the performance of the energy efficiency programs offered by Hawaii Energy, on behalf of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission. The purpose of the survey is to ensure that the programs are operating effectively and to get feedback that will help us improve. You’ll also be asked if you want to participate in a site survey.

If you have any questions, please contact Hawaii Energy at 808.521.2189 or email hawaiienergy@saic.com.

We greatly appreciate your participation to help improve our programs.

Mahalo,

Hawaii Energy Team

Hawaii Energy’s mission is to educate, encourage, and incentivize the rate payers of Hawaii to choose to invest in efficiency measures, to learn new ways to conserve, and to contribute to improving Hawaii’s bright energy future. These individual actions taken as a whole, play a critical role in achieving Hawaii’s Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI) goals. We are developing new measures to improve the cost-effectiveness of the rebate incentives as well as to promote increased emphasis of personal energy awareness and sustainable energy behaviors.

The Hawaii Energy Efficiency Program transition website is where you can find the latest information concerning the new and expanded Hawaii Energy, Conservation and Efficiency Programs operated under contract by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (HPUC) and paid for by electric utility ratepayer fees. Soon, we will launch our official website where we will offer interactive energy efficiency and conservation tools and information to help you make informed energy decisions.

Why Choose Efficiency and Conservation?

Spotlight on Incentives for the Home

Please see details below on these popular current program offerings.

  • Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLS) In-Store Rebates
  • ENERGY STAR® Rebates
  • Solar Hot Water Heater Rebate, Free Inspection & Other Incentives

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLS) In-Store Rebates

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLS) are an easy and inexpensive way to improve your home’s efficiency.  According to ENERGY STAR ®, a CFL will save approximately $30 over its product life and you will re-coup the cost in 6 months (even less time when you take advantage of our rebates).  A CFL needs 75 percent less energy as well as has a product life approximately 10 times longer than your typical  incandescent light bulb.   Many vendors are offering automatic rebates in their Hawaii stores to save you the hassle of mailing in a rebate.  In some cases, CFLs are less than half price after rebate!  Please contact your favorite store to inquire if they offer our Hawaii Energy In Store CFL Rebates (In Store Rebates are only available for CFLs).

ENERGY STAR® Appliance Rebates

A cool and energy efficient home is possible through the residential rebate program offered by Hawaii Energy that awards rebates of $40 - $110 to Oahu home owners for the purchase of ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances, including ceiling fans, clothes washers, dish washers, refrigerators and room air conditioners. We plan to roll out Hawaii Energy's Energy Solutions for the Home, ENERGY STAR® appliance rebate program for the islands of Hawaii, Lanai, Maui and Molokai in Spring 2010.  Check back to the website for updates.

By installing appliances that carry the ENERGY STAR® label, an average family can save nearly $80 a year on energy costs depending on the items and their usage. The cost of energy efficient appliances is typically higher than standard models, but Hawaii Energy rebates offset the this initial cost and the money saved on electric utility bills often make up for the initial investment

ENERGY STAR® labeled appliances are available at most major retailers. The Hawaii Energy rebates for qualified ENERGY STAR® appliances:

Rebate Amount Appliance
$40
Ceiling Fan
$50
Clothes Washer
$50
Dishwasher
$50
Refrigerator
$75
Window Air Conditioner
$110
Ductless Split Air Conditioner

Also, customers with residential central air conditioning can earn a $50 rebate to have their A/C unit professionally serviced by a Hawaii Energy registered C52 contractor so that the unit performs more efficiently. In addition to the rebate savings, a properly maintained central air conditioning unit can save up to 20% on cooling costs.

To qualify for these Hawaii Energy rebates it is recommended that residential home owners shop around and check the ENERGY STAR® website to be sure the brand and model they plan to purchase is listed.
