Hawai‘i Energy Launches Pilot Program to Provide Funding for Energy Efficiency Projects
HONOLULU – Hawai‘i Energy launches a new offering to decrease energy usage in commercial buildings by simplifying the process for businesses to implement energy efficiency projects that can yield significant savings on their energy costs.
Through the pilot program focusing on Class A and Class B commercial buildings on Oʻahu, companies serving as “Channel Partners” will have access to financial institutions, contractors and other partners and take care of the more time-consuming parts of a project, such as energy audits, efficiency measures and incentives, maintenance costs, and performance risks.
Building owners and property managers in the program will save themselves the time and effort of coordinating these measures themselves, and pay no upfront costs. Instead they’ll be using an off-balance sheet funding solution in which the project cost is paid back to the Channel Partner over time through energy savings and other equipment performance metrics.
Beyond the monetary value, commercial buildings will also decrease their environmental impact. As public awareness about climate change rises, the program provides a solution for businesses to significantly reduce their energy consumption without breaking the bank.
The first Channel Partner participating in this pilot program is Energy Advisors, which provides turn-key building improvement solutions through the development and funding of energy efficiency and capital improvements in Hawaiʻi and the mainland. Energy Advisors will use Hawaiʻi Energy’s incentives to implement more comprehensive energy efficiency upgrades through ASHRAE Level 2 energy audits, metering and monitoring equipment, along with sustained savings after the efficiency measures are implemented and electric vehicle charging station installations.
