Trade Up for Cool Cash Program a huge success

7/1/2010 Filed under Press Releases

Hawaii was allocated $2 million in federal stimulus funds to be used for ENERGY STAR® appliance rebates. Similar to the Cash for Clunkers program that took old gas-guzzling cars off the road, Hawaii Energy’s Trade Up for Cool Cash program replaced inefficient refrigerators with ENERGY STAR® qualified models. The program offered a $250 cash incentive to consumers, while helping accelerate the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative’s goal of 70 percent clean energy by 2030.

Rebates were delivered to over 4,300 residents in just three days. Nearly 4,000 ENERGY STAR® refrigerators were sold on the first day of the program, which ran from May 24 to June 23.
